After only 90 days of fighting to root out the Taliban of a location they've owned for over a decade, Gen McChrystal named Marjah a bleeding ulcer. That was an unbelievably stupid assessment given the nature of the enemy, the rules of engagement placed on the Marines by the General, and the paltry quantity of time the Marines had invested within the fight. Â Marjah is still becoming referred to as “the most dangerous spot in Afghanistan” by embedded media which is, in my professional opinion, not true. Â I’ve just returned from a 3 day trip into Marjah soon after getting lucky enough to catch a ride with the CO of Regimental Combat Team 1, Col Dave Furness who was taking a road journey to go to his battalions inside field. Â There is too a lot data from that journey to post in 1 sitting so the initial dispatch from the trip will cover Marjah. Â The other issues I saw, like Senators McCain, Lieberman, Graham and Gillibrand inside the Nawa District Center will need to wait.
